Ayushmann Khurrana is one Bollywood actor who seems to be doing everything right with his career. He has consistently chosen substantial scripts and has made a name for himself in an industry of superstars. He is not the only one who seems to have gotten things right, though. Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha who last directed the movie Mulk has done the same thing. A film based on the topic of Article 15, which is extensively covered in Part III of the Indian Constitution – Fundamental Rights, may sound like a hardcore political drama. But this movie is so much more than that. What’s Article 15 About: Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurrana), a young IPS officer, gets posted to Lalgaon in Uttar Pradesh. His team of policemen includes Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and others. Initially, Ayan Ranjan loves the charm and peacefulness of the Indian countryside and even talks to his girlfriend Aditi (Isha Talwar) about it. But the very next day of his posting, he is taken to a crime scene where two girls have been found hanging from a tree and a third girl has been missing for two days. The local police dismiss it as an honor killing and push to get the fathers of both the girls arrested for the unsolved crime. An alumnus of a very prestigious college in India and having lived in Europe for a while, Ayan finds it confusing to understand the societal expectations of people belonging to different castes in the village. He soon realises that this case is not as simple as it seems. The case unravels a lot of prevalent issues in the village, which is an unapologetic depiction of what is wrong with our society. Will cops who still upheld the age-old practice of discrimination on the grounds of the caste system see beyond it? What exactly happened to the three girls?

If you think this is just another crime drama film dont be in that state whatta movie touches every aspect of the caste system and shows what Indian constituency has mentioned in the books. Ayushman Khurrana as always nails it with his script selection and the kind of acting he does is just brilliant, give him any role and he would win it. Director Anubhav Sinha has given a gem in the form of a lesson that must be learnt.

'Article 15' is a gripping movie that touches, moves and inspires. Based on the constitutional provision against any bias based on caste, creed, religion. This brilliant movie shows India is in a poor state of affairs even after so many years after independence. Excellent acting by Ayushman Khurana. The movie has minor dips but very few. And the best dialogue is: '' India doesn't need heroes, we need people who won't wait for heroes''.

Hard hitting Sad that it is still happening. Is it the maturity of our political class ( I wonder) that they have not started blaming the issue on modi's five years. All actors have done a Fab job.. film holds you till end and deals with shocking incidents which happened few years back. Good direction, story, plot. Excellent cinematography. Effective background sound. Jeshan Quadri also looks impressive as Chandrashekhar of Bheem Army.

Prudvi posted a review for Article 15 in Movies
Article 15 opens with a rain-soaked village and its population – mostly Dalits – huddled together. Gaura (Sayani Gupta) is singing a folk song as an Ambedkar statue, only one unprotected from the rain, watches from a distance. We soon move to the film’s upper caste hero – Ayushmann Khurrana as IPS officer Ayan Ranjan – in a car listening to Bob Dylan’s Blowin in the Wind. His driver tells him a parable from the Ramayana, where a village turned to darkness so that Ram’s palace can shine brighter. Assuming you’ve been watching the news in the last five years, the story strikes the landing. The song shifts. The mood shifts. A new country emerges. It is probably Sinha’s way of announcing how many Indias exist in a single instance, but it also gives an idea of how removed from reality and protected by layers of privilege Ayan himself is. In the beginning, there are a lot of name drops in Article 15. There is Ambedkar and Bob Dylan. We see Ayan reading Discovery of India. His partner Aditi (Isha Talwar) is his sounding board and we learn that she works on “gender studies”. People in the film have all the right pedigree to be talking the things they talk about until they don’t. At one point, Ayan tells Aditi that he used to proudly talk about India to his friends in Europe. The number of things that he unlearns and learns over the course of this film is staggering even for a cocooned individual. He expresses shock over practices and inequities that have existed for centuries. In some ways, the film is Ayan’s own discovery of India. But there is merit in this approach; in today’s increased threat of majoritarianism it probably serves as a reminder to what the country is turning into and what its real ideals are. It probably helps when a story like this one and words said here that despite sounding like visualized versions of liberal elite editorials, are relayed into mainstream consciousness through popular cinema. The Hindi film industry is usually not an ally, its biggest players are usually pro establishment and pro status quo, so this feels like that rare film that is willing to wade into murky waters. Sinha and Gaurav Solanki’s script is loosely based on the 2014 Badaun gang rape. Ayan is newly posted to Lalgaon where two Dalit girls, 15 years old, are raped and their bodies are hung from a tree. A third one – Gaura’s sister – goes missing. From here, the film is adroit in switching between polemic and procedural. The former is when Ayan examines the caste hierarchy and equations in the village. This is where a bit of the smugness creeps in; the film is self-aware and seems to wait for the sound of applause before every cut. There is a moderately painful scene where Ayan asks after everyone’s caste in his police station. It goes for humour, a particularly sardonic one that also feels disingenuous and perverse. It draws laughter but that laughter is couched in a defeatist attitude. The laughter can be verbalized as “this is so funny it’s true.” The film’s gaze is situated upon a pedestal. To Article 15‘s credit, it is categorical in its indictment. It indicts the self – the upper caste allies who don’t do enough, it indicts the police force (there is even a staged encounter), and it indicts the government and the excuse of a democracy it functions on.

The movie doesn’t falters much. The pace of the movie may seem slow to some.

It's incredibly similar to an English movie "Mississippi burning". Article 15 is about casteism in India and MB is about the racism in America. That alone isn't why it seems similar. Many scenes looked similar there are some characters that also feels like they were taken from MB. But this isn't to discredit Article 15 in any way. Even though both topics are same, it's both about bigotry and discrimination. The movie shoots arrows in the air and hopes of injecting them as thoughts within the audiences. It merely uses a rape case, an actual one, to drive its own agenda. Which is incredibly disheartening when you think of it. It ends up further dividing the audience on the name of uniting them.

Article 15 is a must watch movie for every Indian citizen it says 'prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth' clearly it's a crime thriller as most rural north India is suffering due to caste based politics and discrimination to Dalits and other lower caste. The plot, dialogue, narration the characters and ofcourse the acting will hit you instantly it never looses the grip on you. Ayushman Khuranna is an IPS officer who gets his first posting in the village of Lalgaon,UP. Only a couple of days before the date of joining, a gangrape followed by murder takes place where the two vicitms turn out to be of the lower caste. The film majorly highlights the plight of the lower caste people who live in villages like Lalgaon, where they face a prejudice by not only the upper caste but by the state institutions also. Anubhav Sinha has created a masterpiece, the film gives a feeling of a documentary and it feels nothing like a conventional Bollywood film based in a small village of UP. Strangely, the film has no song nor does it have any dance sequence( which is a good thing). The film has used good humour which is evident from the fact that the viewers can be seen giggling at caste based jokes which goes on to show that the director has pulled the humour part beautifully without hurting the sentiments of the general public. In my opinion, Ayushman deserves a national award for this film since he has played his part beautifully. Thus, the viewers can expect themselves to be glued to their seats for the most part and can also expect a nail biting end.

One more Masterpiece movie from Ayushmann khurana. Article 15 is based on article 15 of Indian constitution which is caste based issue. It revolves around how in village girls got raped and murdered because of lower caste and if they ask for increament in their salary even for 3rs. And how the police and big officers are frightened from politicians or big criminals and don't stands for justice. Main scene of the movie comes when ayushman was asking sarcastly every police officer about their caste like who is from lower and upper caste. All actors acted to their potential. A must watch movie to all Indians to know what is happening around them and should stand to fight against these issues to make the country even more secure and proud.

All said and done, Article 15 makes a very strong statement without hiding any facts. It screams what’s wrong, now who can hear it, that really depends on what kind of life you’re living. Another gem for Ayushmann Khurrana (after Andhadhun & Badhaai Ho) & Anubhav Sinha (after Mulk). A shocking yet necessary watch! It shows you where we, as a country, are going wrong and you want to know more about it! Ayushmann Khurrana continues his habit of delivering spellbinding performances, a chimerical supporting cast The average things come with something good with them (the dark undertones set the mood of the film), so no major complaints. In the minor ones – the pace stumbles at places! Parental guidance : NOT REQUIRED Overall Rating : 4/5

Ayushman - The actor is a truly talented performer. He expresses so much with just so little! The entire cast’s performance is remarkable. Sayani Gupta is impressive as is Manoj Pahwa in a new role. Manoj Pahwa who has very often been cast in the jovial chachu, mamu and uncle roles, does something very differents and does it incredibly well. We wish he takes more of these. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Nassar have been cast in brief but powerful and impactful roles. Isha Talwar may have had a brief role too in Article 15 but she makes her presence felt. She seems to have developed into a fine actor who we’d like to see more often. Kumud Misha has done an exceptional job not only in intense scenes but also in the much-needed scenes that provide some comic relief. Ewan Mulligan’s camerawork is noteworthy and adds to the the intensity this plot demands. The music and background score work well. Article 15 answers all the uncomfortable questions without underplaying any issue. It is gruesome, it is raw and it is a must-watch.

Sinha draws many of its plot elements from newspaper headlines of recent years, the principal one related to the 2014 Badaun gangrape and killing of two girls and the 2016 Una flogging of Dalit men and employs them methodically to probe caste and gender fissures and fault lines. It remains true to the demands of the plot without losing control over its principal purpose – administering a bitter pill with just a hint of a sugar coating. It works wonderfully well. Article 15 is a movie based on a life of a young police officer posted in a village where there is still caste based rivalry. The issues faced by the officer during his course of duty is the main story behind it after three girls go missing and two of them found dead and the third one still missing. The story was well written and well directed. The background music and the locations selected were apt for the film which makes it a decent movie to watch and understand the local politics in villages. Ayushmann has given a splendid performance. He is too good for this role. Isha Talwar gives needful support to him. Sayami Gupta shines in her effective role. Best of her was crying with Kumud Mishra in this film. Kumud Mishra is terrific. He has played this role like no one can. His slap scene is clap worthy. Manoj Pahwa again delivers wonderful performance. Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub has a special appearance. The time he comes in the story, the film picks up very high. Fantabulous performance by him. Movie has no songs in it. Just a satire song at the starting. And a rap song at the end credits. Dialogues are absolutely fantastic. 'Power ki alag hi jaat hoti hai!' Hard hitting one liners will blow your mind. Entire speech by Zeeshan Ayyub in the jeep is perfectly written. Audience were clapping on the last line of that dialogue by him. While my most favorite one has been spoken by Ayushmann to his officer, that 'Jab Aag Lagi Hui Ho Aur Aap Neutral Rahen, To Iska Matlab Hai Ki Aap Unn Logon Ke Side Hain Jo Aag Laga Rahe Hain!' This is going to be a hit in Anubhav Sinha's kitty.

Article 15 - Long Forgotten Dr Ambedkar, while forming the Constitution of India insisted on Article 15 which clearly states " The State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them." And very conveniently, this was something which was just on black and white for ages. In light of some recent events, the movie reminds us about the same in the Bhartiya Samvidhan. The movie starts with the Dalits in the area meeting under a shed and singing war songs against the upper caste people in the area. Enter, Ayan Ranjan(Ayushmann Khurana),a new IPS officer given a punishment posting as Addl. Commissioner to Lalgunj because he replied "Cool, Sir" to the Home Secretary. The first day of work, 2 girls are found hanging dead from a tree on the outskirts of the village from a tree. When the Cause Of Death(COD) was revealed to be repeated rape and then murder, the reason for this crime is what stuns the audience - Rs 3. The girls are asked for an increment of their daily wages from Rs 25 to Rs 28. Makes us actually wonder if these are actually the numbers paid to the working class now. The plot thickens when the new ACP come to know that the girls were missing for 48 hrs and no FIR was registered even though the family tried to place a complaint on the same day. It also adds to the horror that a 15 year old girl Pooja, was also missing with the girls found dead but is no where to be found now. Ayan tries to investigate the crime only to be road blocked by CI Brahmadatt(Manoj Pahwa) on every step he makes. A confused Ayan tries to understand the politics in the area but pains him to accept that the politics in the area is more religious than the actual party campaigning. Unchi jaathi & neechi jaathi were something he did not understand when it came to giving justice. But, Lalganj ke logon ko wohi baath samajh aathi hai. There is a scene in the movie where Ayan is infuriated at his subordinates while trying to understand the caste system. Then comes the introduction of the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution the notice board. The movie spins around how Ayan brings justice to the victims of this heinous crimes. The movie is a loose adaptation of the 2014 Badaun gang rape allegations and 2016 Una flogging incident. Direction & Dialogues A bold attempt made by the director Anubhav Sinha. Like his previous movies, this movie gave us a moral insight into the down trodden of the society. The movie had a running time of 2 hrs and 05 seconds. Some dialogues in the movie failed to move a chord as the words did not emote the scene. Acting. Ayushmann Khurana - He played ACP Ayan Ranjan as an evolving actor, i.e; with ease and finesse. The had him in every scene of the movie and he justified every emotion shown on screen. Manoj Pahwa - After a long time Pahwa was seen in a negative character. Pahwa played a perfect Antagonist to Ayushmann and will make you feel disgusted for the man. All other actors, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Nasser & Kumud Mishra had roles which they glorified for the small screen presence they had.
